Max Duke, Director

Max joined the Station Products & Innovation team in 2008 as video manager to help manage the creation, delivery & launch of video products for stations, such as COVE. In addition to supporting the system’s ongoing evolution into online video, Max also assists stations in developing mobile strategy and products and building general new media capacity. Max began his career in public media in 1999 in South Florida at WPBT Channel 2. With a background in Marketing, he began as the station's publicist before moving into the role of webmaster a year later. Over the next eight years, Max helped build WPBT's online presence, eventually becoming Manager of the Interactive Media department. During that time, he strategically led a number of initiatives to further public media's understanding and capabilities in the online world, including Public Television’s first User-Generated Video Sharing community. Max is a graduate of the University of Miami-FL with a degree in English. He lives in Virginia with his wife, Dianne, and son, Jacob.

José Fernández, Product Deployment Manager

José Fernández joined the Station Products & Innovation team as Product Deployment Manager in February 2013. José is responsible for the implementation and roll out of PBS Digital products across multiple technology platforms, including online, mobile and OTT boxes. In addition, he designs and refines internal processes and workflow to respond to SPI’s growing product line and customer needs.
He comes to us from GuideStar, where he was Product Manager for the nonprofit database the GuideStar Exchange. Prior to GuideStar, José worked as a Program Manager at the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) where he helped develop and market two niche social networks. José graduated from The George Washington University School of Business Executive MBA program. He lives in Washington, D.C. with his wife, Jessie, and son, Matías.

Marla joined the Station Products & Innovation team in 2008 to provide assistance with the DTV transition and the PBS TV Tune In module redesign. Along with serving as a communication liaison for PBS stations, Marla provides station support for the Prosper Online Giving initiative and station mobile strategy and products. Marla graduated from University of Virginia with degrees in Foreign Affairs, French and a Masters of Education.

Kate Alany, Sr. Manager of Digital Analytics

Kate Alany joined PBS in May 2013 as Sr. Manager of Digital Analytics. Kate heads up development of new analytic services, while also working closely with member stations. Kate joins PBS from Gannett, where she worked for eight years. Most recently, she served as Manager of Brand Research and Strategy, leading research support functions for Gannett's cross-platform sales team. A graduate of Baltimore's Loyola College, Kate holds a B.A. in Sociology with a minor in Business. Kate loves to travel, and once won a trip to South Africa through a radio station contest. Kate lives in Springfield with husband, Tony, and their dog. They like to spend their free time exploring towns, neighborhoods and restaurants in D.C. and surrounding areas.

Jen Carter, Senior Associate

Jen joined the Station Products & Innovation team in August 2011 as Project Associate. She provides member stations with digitally innovative resources via PBS developed product and services. These resources come in the form of product training, marketing and communication and innovative initiatives that aid in strengthening the health of the PBS member stations. Jen received a Bachelor’s degree from Towson University in Mass Communications with a concentration in Journalism and New Media. She lives in Virginia with her fiancé Joseph, and her needy, but lovable cat Gidget. If she isn’t at home baking, watching t.v., or entertaining family and friends, you can find her running around the local VA and D.C. neighborhoods or hanging out with the latest addition to her family, a corgi puppy Bernard.

Brionne Griffin, Marketing Associate

Brionne joined PBS in June 2013 as a Marketing Associate for the SPI team. Brionne is a recent graduate of The University of Texas at Austin, where she earned a Bachelor's of Journalism in Multimedia Journalism. During her collegiate career, she worked as an Assistant Web Editor at PBS member station KLRU. She also spent several months as an Undergraduate Research Assistant at The Annette Strauss Institute for Civic Life, and as a Copy Editor for The Daily Texan. A few of her favorite things include kabobs, her pocket Thesaurus, Jack White, and telling banjo jokes.
