Blank Slate: Monopods

Blank Slate is a new 16-part instructional series from PBS Digital Studios with the production team Video Dads, made up of Emmy-nominated video producers Travis Gilmour and Slavik Boyechko.

This week we have Kelsey Savage, Assistant Director in PBS Digital Studios giving tips on selecting a Monopod.

Video monopods are a must-have on any shoot. Easily transportable and great for B-roll, filming with a monopod can add a whole new dimension to your video.

Here are some of our monopod tips :
Video vs Photo Monopods— When you’re purchasing a monopod, make sure its a video monopod. Their feet provide additional stability and the flexible head will ensure you’ll get fluid panning shots.

Positioning— For extra stability when shooting, hold the monopod close to your body or even lock the pan head arm under armpit.

Product Recommendations— Watch B&H’s product review video before purchasing a monopod. They review different features of four monopods to help you get a better idea of what qualities to look for in a monopod.

Check back next Tuesday for a tripods overview!
