Last week, WHRO Public Media in Norfolk, Virginia, debuted its weekly web series, “The Scene”. The series highlights work of visual and performance artists, musicians, improv performers, and many others around coastal Virginia.
The arts scene in Hampton Roads is vibrant and multi-layered. On any given day, you can find a mural in progress in Downtown Norfolk, a quirky folk art show on the Peninsula, playful children's displays in public spaces throughout any of the seven cities, and multiple university galleries showcasing a variety of media. Larger institutions like The Chrysler and MOCA display their permanent collections and area galleries all rival the offerings of larger metropolitan areas.
Along with a very innovative and impressive companion website, each webisode will tell a unique and positive story about local artists who combine different forms of art to better their community, and expand appreciation for the Arts.
Check out a few of the episodes, and tell us what you think!
