The default settings for the Title Tags field which can be found in the pages area of your Bento site has been updated to reflect Search Engine Optimization (SEO) best practices. This new release dynamically generates the Meta Title Tag to include information about the page, the section it relates to, and your station branding.
Prior to this fix, the Title Tag only contained the Bento page name, but left off any other contextual or branding information. This release automatically adds the appropriate default Title Tags to your Bento pages. You can edit the the Title Tag via the SEO Settings title field within your Bento pages.
If you are already using the SEO Settings area to create Title Tags, your custom titles will remain as you have them. This new fix only impacts the default when the SEO Setting is left blank.
We encourage you to take advantage of the SEO Settings to ensure your titles and descriptions are informative and compelling. This fix ensures that even if you don't fill out these fields, there's still sufficient information in your Meta Title to give users a clearer picture of what your page is about.
Other Updates to Bento
Photo Gallery: We’ve increased the maximum number of photos that will appear in a photo gallery from 18 to 40.
Support for special characters and diacritical marks:
The database change will allow the full slate of UTF8 characters to surface on Bento sites, including macrons. Hello PBS Hawaii Hiki Nō!
Template and Smart Snippet validation:
Templates and smart snippets created by PBS will now be read only in the Bento admin, meaning developer-level users can see them but not edit them. Developers will still be able to copy the code into a new template or smart snippet and edit that code. We ask that all smart snippets and templates created based on PBS-provided code be labeled with the station name or site name. Example: "WYCC Three Level Carousel"
Header Mini Logos and Explorer Header Mini Logos:
Added the ability to add links and hover text on the mini logos.
Explorer Facebook Like Button has been added to the social media snippet.
Explorer Twitter Follow Button has been added to the social media snippet.
This webinar will update stations on new features which have been added or improved upon in Bento as well as take a deeper dive and/or refresher and answer any questions large or small that you have related to Bento.
